OLDS, LINDA E. Fully Human. How Everyone Can Integrate the Benefits of Masculine and Feminine Sex Rôles. New Jersey, Prentice-Hall, 1981. Pp. xiv+274. $6.95.
Androgyny: this is the thesis of Olds's book, which opens with an examination of some sex rôle stereotypes in American society, and moves on to interesting discussions on the need for men and women to discover and develop the androgynous side of their personalities. Addressing herself particularly to women, their problems and potential, the author draws extensively on many Jungian writers, and is perhaps at her best in her argument for the strengthening of what she calls woman's ‘inner man’.

WILLIAMS, D. L. Border Crossings: A Psychological Perspective on Carlos Castaneda's Path of Knowledge. Toronto, Inner City Books, 1981. Pp. 153. $12.00.
Mr Williams's well-written and revealing book is a thorough Jungian exposition of the images, events and relationships in Carlos Castaneda's now famous books. Prescinding entirely from any discussion of whether the books are true, ‘based on truth’ or entirely fiction, Williams painstakingly traces the initiatory journey of ‘Carlos’ (the character, not the author) using dreams, fairy tales, anthropological knowledge to elucidate each detail. Especially, he discusses feminine psychology and the ‘female in men’, and places the books firmly in their native matrix by frequent and telling reference to American Indian culture. In addition to the good index and bibliography there is the synopsis of the action at each phase of Castaneda's story with which Williams precedes each of his own chapters of discussion and exposition.
