CAMPBELL, JOSEPH (Ed.) Spirit and Nature. Papers from the Eranos Yearbooks. Princeton, University Press, 1982. Pp. xvi+498. $7.95.
This is the paperback edition of volume one of the Bollingen Series XXX, selections from the Eranos Yearbooks, published in hardback in 1954. The papers in Spirit and Nature were chosen by the Editor and are drawn from the publications of the years 1937, 1945 and 1946.
In a moving preface, Olga Froebe-Kapteyn reminds the reader that the primary aim of the lectures has not been literary perfection nor a total treatment of the subject. Their value is evocative. They touch upon unusual themes, and in so doing evoke the great archetypal images, connecting us for a glorious moment with the ineffable and the sublime.

FREUD, ANNA. Psychoanalytic Psychology of Normal Development. London, Hogarth Press, 1982. Pp. ix+389. £15.
This eighth volume of Anna Freud's collected writings offers the reader an abundance of new material written between 1970 and 1980.
It is in four sections, the first two of which reflect her growing interest in applying the psychoanalytic findings of child psychopathology to the understanding of normal development. She stresses that clinicians who, like herself, work with adults, can benefit from studying the findings of child analysts, and she demonstrates this in a splendid series of lucid papers.
Later sections contain a study guide to Freud's writings, of particular value to the student, and her papers on applications of child analysis in pediatrics, in education, and elsewhere.
