In this paper, based on an address given to parapsychologists, we find ourselves back in a familiar area of McCully's interests; the manifestation of archetypal energy in its various symbolic forms, in dreams and religious imagery. McCully claims that the Rorschach is a direct and precise way of studying such archetypal material. (Cf. ‘Tantric Imagery and Rorschach perception’, Rorschachiana Japonica No. 14, Nov. 1974.
Now he suggests that parapsychological phenomena, as imagery that bypasses consciousness ‘and is reflected in subjective consciousness’, may represent another aspect of Jung's idea of teleos, as a psychic survival system. When this material takes a synchronitious route (outside space and time) it must by definition take place alongside an affective component. Thus Rorschach, aided by an understanding of Jung's typology, could be useful in the study of parapsychological phenomena from the point of view of design and theory. Para-psychological phenomena of this sort provide further material useful in the understanding of archetypal energy.
