Patrick Casement's second volume, Further Learning from the Patient, like his earlier book on the same subject, is intended for a wide readership among analysts, therapists, and others concerned with human interaction. Throughout the book, Casement mentions authors, especially Winnicott, whose thinking has influenced or paralleled his own, but he also makes it clear that he tries to avoid theoretical or other preconceptions in his clinical work, believing that everything of importance must be individually discovered with each patient. He also eschews any sort of dogmatic certainty which ‘constricts the analyst's capacity to think imaginatively about the patient’.
