Dear Editor,
For the life of me, I cannot understand why Polly Young-Eisendrath is so upset. So Jung was impressed by National Socialism in the thirties. So some passages of Jung's writing could be called anti-semitic. So … what? Analytical psychology is not a religion. Jung is not our messiah. He was a fallible human being, who often appeared naïve and opinionated when he ventured into areas in which he was not an expert - areas such as politics, philosophy, art. But he was a great and distinguished psychologist. I am a Jungian analyst not because of hero worship of Jung, but because his contribution to the understanding of the human psyche is the foundation on which I base my work.
For the record: I am a Jew.
Yours sincerely,
