, (1993), C.G. Jung und der Nationalsozialismus. Texte und Daten. Zusammengestellt im Auftrag der Deutschen Gesellschaft für Analytische Psychologie. 2nd ed. Privately printed, Berlin. Pp. 86. Available via the German Society of Analytical Psychology.
This is a compilation in chronological order of statements made by Jung and related documents relevant to his connection with National Socialism. Included are commentaries on Jung's own position and the chronology of events in the political and professional scene. It also includes accounts of the struggles of Jungians to come to terms with the issue. The preface deals with the emotional importance of confronting the material. The appendix provides a substantial list of references. Some pages of the original documents are reproduced in facsimile. A letter to Göring from Jung and a laudatory article on Göring co-signed by Jung, which followed from Jung's famous ‘Geleitwort’ (Preface) in the Zentralblatt, provide for the English reader hitherto untranslated material. An article in the ‘Berliner Börsenzeitung’ acclaims Jung as ‘reformer of psychoanalysis’ . Curtius praises Jung on the occasion of his 60th birthday . Göring postulates the existence of race-specific archetypes . Two post-war commentaries by Erich Kästner and Alex von Muralt deals with Jung's Nazi affiliations.
