This book is handsomely produced, as befits its importance. It is too important to need a long review — you must read it. In it, Andrew Samuels makes a bold effort to straddle the gap between Jung and Freud: this Colossus stance, of course, leaves him vulnerable.
The book will be read by experienced analysts with profit, but will be a particular boon to trainees. It is well referenced and there is a comprehensive index. I have but one quarrel with the author. To use the title Jung and the Post-Jungians simply perpetuates the deification of Freud and Jung, which has done no service to analytical thought.
