This issue marks the proceedings of the second annual American Conference of the JAP held in Sebasco, Maine, from 11-15 June, 1997. The dialogue, started at the first conference, ‘Jungians at the Crossroads: The Interface with Psychoanalysis’, between analytical psychologists and psychoanalysts, has been continued with an in-depth look at what takes place in our respective consulting rooms. This diverse clinical material was presented against a backcloth of historical papers about our inter - related family trees, highlighting not only our common heritage but also the many different scientific, cultural and personal influences which have shaped our thinking and practice today.
We hope in reproducing these papers to give our readers an opportunity to participate in this ongoing evaluation of the development of our clinical practice and theoretical framework. We would also like to encourage our readers not only to respond and contribute to these discussions but also to attend our third American Conference, ‘Contemporary Perspectives on Unconscious Processes and Analytic Method’, which will once again bring together analytical psychologists and psychoanalysts. Details of this Conference will be forthcoming.
