What follows is a response to Dr Grotstein's current paper on the psychoanalytic Subject. The discussion highlights the paper's main ideas, giving a developmental context by citing Grotstein's previous work in Do I dare disturb the universe? It is suggested here that the expanded view of the Subject of psychoanalysis that Grotstein describes is similar to Jung's description of the Self and Edinger's explication of the ego-Self axis. It is noted that Grotstein arrives at his ideas through Lacan, Bion, Matte Blanco, as well as other Freudian analysts. In reviewing Grotstein's case material the possible impact of Grotstein's contribution on both Jungian and Freudian communities is discussed.
