In her book Les Analyses d'Enfants, Denyse Lyard offers us the fruit of her many years of practice as a psychiatrist and Jungian child and adult analyst. She has, through her ongoing contact with well babies and her clinical work with children and adolescents, greatly enriched our understanding, from a Jungian perspective, of the developing psyche. Dr Lyard has for many years been a training analyst for the French Society of Analytical Psychology and is one of the original participants of the International Workshop of Analytical Psychology in Childhood and Adolescence. I was fortunate in being able to meet with Dr Lyard at these conferences and hear directly about her clinical and theoretical work. She conveyed to me a depth of experience, understanding, wisdom and compassion whenever she described one of her cases. I am glad that she has now decided to publish in this book a needed and helpful summary of her work as a Jungian child analyst. It is one of an increasing but still limited number of books devoted entirely to the field of Jungian child analysis, and because of its balanced and carefully considered point of view may well become an important reference for child and adolescent analysts.
