During the beginning year of my editorial tenure, I have come to more fully appreciate the quality and diversity of the Journal. For example, in this issue, we have papers from the US, UK and Italy with a range of theoretical perspectives that include more traditional analytic views along with applications of Jungian ideas to caring for war veterans. Also included are an historical paper, an interview and an array of clinical papers that are well woven with theoretical understanding.
Pramila Bennett, Managing Editor, and Warren Colman, UK Editor-in- Chief, have welcomed me into this position and helped with the transition from my role as US Book Review Editor, a job that I thoroughly enjoyed. I am delighted that Patricia Vesey-McGrew has now taken on the Book Review position and she will work with Marcus West, to whom I am most grateful for our years of collaboration.
Finally, I would like to thank my predecessor, Michael Horne, for his five years of dedicated service to the Journal. We have particularly appreciated his commitment to mentorship of new writers and for his support of writing workshops by suggesting that money be raised for this purpose in lieu of a farewell gift for him. Many thanks to Michael for his goodwill and generosity.
I have had the good fortune to meet face-to-face with the UK Editorial Board three times in the last year, giving me the opportunity to interact more personally with colleagues and be more directly involved in the workings of the Journal. During our last meeting in November we selected the papers for the upcoming St. Petersburg Conference entitled ‘The Ancestors in Personal, Professional and Social History’ to take place from 12-15 May 2011. We were encouraged by the number of excellent and diverse proposals which, of course, made selection difficult. The programme, we believe, represents the range and depth of creative work in our community. Further information about the programme and application can be found with this issue and on
