This slim volume comprises seven papers by contemporary psychoanalysts who discuss the impact of technological change on the lives of individuals, on culture and on the psychoanalytical endeavour in particular. A forward is provided by Peter Fonagy and an introduction by the book's editors.
In their initial Acknowledgements the editors state that the ‘book was conceived following the 6th British-Italian Dialogue in London in 2011, whose
theme was Dream Space and Virtual Space in the Analytic Situation’. Three of the collection's seven papers are acknowledged to be reprints from the psychoanalytic literature, although this provenance is not elaborated.
The chapters are as follows:
New technologies and the psychoanalytic setting. Andrea Sabbadini
Cyberpassion: E-rotic transference and the Internet. Glen Gabbard
Clinical issues in analysis over the telephone and the Internet. Jill Savege Scharff
Psychic development in a virtual world. Florence Guignard
An order of pure decision: Growing up in a virtual world and the adolescent's experience of the body. Alessandra Lemma
