The North American Editor of the Journal is a Co-Editor-in-Chief, working alongside the UK Editor(s). The Editors are in frequent contact and consultation with each other on a range of Journal issues, and consequently editorial decisions are largely shared.
The NA Editor advises on and leads the selection and appointment of members of the NA editorial team (assistant editors, the deputy editor, the book review and journal review editors).
The NA Editor is responsible for coordinating the work of the NA editorial team, requesting readers’ reports from them and coordinating the work of the book review and journal review editors.
The UK and NA Editors share the responsibility for allocating papers to readers, ensuring timely delivery of readers’ reports and sending an editor's letter to authors of submitted papers.
The NA Editor is particularly responsible for promoting the Journal within North, Central and South America and shares the process of planning the development of the Journal internationally, including into the Far East.
An important part of the work of both Editors is shaping the direction and content of the Journal. The main ways in which the Editors implement this are -
(a) planning international and national Journal conferences.
(b) the grouping of papers in each issue, sometimes with a specific theme.
(c) writing editorials
