Beatrice Ithier (a member of the Italian Psychoanalytical Society and the Society Psychoanalytic of Paris) offers the reader a window into her astute, sensitive, intuitive clinical perspective in her article: Boundaries and depths of the oneiric. It was with great delight that I encountered her article. My intellect was stimulated and stretched, and the ending of the article touched my heart. The case material she shared illuminated how she applied the conceptual ideas she explored in this piece very well.
Working largely within a theoretical framework of Bion (see Bion 1970) and post-Bionian field theory (see Ferro 2013), she explores the ‘spectrum of oneiric’ - building from Freud's original conceptualization of the oneiric into a broader conceptualization of dreaming that includes night dreams, waking dream thoughts (operating unconsciously below the threshold of consciousness) and dream memory.
