Editorial

This edition is dedicated to the plenary papers of the 22^nd International Congress of the International Association for Analytical Psychology, whose title was Analytical Psychology Opening to the Changing World: Contemporary Perspectives on Clinical, Scientific, Social, Cultural and Environmental Issues, held from 29^th August to 2^nd September 2022 in Buenos Aires. When Buenos Aires was chosen as the venue during the previous congress in Vienna in 2019, nobody could have anticipated how the world would have changed during these three years. COVID-19 was a deeply traumatic experience with loss of life, social isolation, the widespread use of video conferencing technology and a profound change to the order that we were used to. Then, in February 2022, the Russian invasion of the Ukraine added a further disruption to our sense of stability.

These changes were reflected in the themes of the congress and even in the way it was conducted. This was the first time that the IAAP congress was organized as a hybrid event with 430 participants there in person and around 375 online. Consequently, working online was a recurrent topic during the congress, as were themes around our changing world, trauma, the confrontation with death and a questioning of Jung's concept of animus and anima in the context of gender fluidity. Furthermore, Argentina's history of military dictatorship with estimated 30,000 ‘disappeared’ people was not left out. Indeed, the conference venue was not far from the Plaza de Mayo where since 1977 mothers and grandmothers of those kidnapped and murdered have come together to protest and demand answers.

The congress was opened by Margarita Ovalle Vergara with her paper “Soul, myth, and cosmovision in a changing world: Essentials of analytical psychology and the descendent path”.
