Joanna Holroyd trained as a teacher and has twenty years of experience teaching in a variety of settings and locations. Whilst working in a London school, she took over responsibility for the teaching and learning of PSHCE (personal, social, health, and citizenship education) across the school. This provided the impetus for her to undertake a degree in psychology at the Open University and a foundation course in psychotherapy and counselling at Regent's University London. Joanna went on to complete her training at Regent's, including a three-year clinical placement at an addictions service which inspired her to carry out qualitative research in this area for her dissertation. Joanna is now a UKCP-accredited psychotherapist working in IAPT for the South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust. During the last academic year, she was a visiting lecturer on the therapeutic counselling MSc at Greenwich University, and she is currently an associate lecturer at the Open University.
