37th Interview: After relating a few dreams, Harry read slowly and monotonously for 35 minutes from a psychology book he had brought with him. There were no comments from the therapist. The youngster finally closed the book and asked Dr. T what he thought about it.
Dr. T: Why do you want my opinion?
Harry: Because I haven't read the rest of the book.
Dr. T: Why should you care to have my opinion if you haven't read the whole book?
Harry: I'd like to have it anyway. I want to know if the book will help me understand people.
Dr. T: Why can't you judge that for yourself from reading the book?
Harry: I want to become a psychologist, so I have to find out how to handle people and their problems. I think the book will help me do that.
Dr. T: Then why do you need my opinion on whether it will?
Harry: Well, in a way, I'm sure it will. Then you would be superfluous?
Dr. T: Why do you read your book to me for 35 minutes if I'm superfluous?
