received his M.D. from Friedrich Wilhelms University in Berlin and his Med.Sc.D. in neurology from Physicians and Surgeons College, Columbia University. He is a Life Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association and the American ORthopsychiatric Association. Currently in private practice of individual and group psychoanalytic p;sychotherapy in New York City, he has written and lectured extensively on analytic psychotherapy in the severe psychiatric disorder, analytic group psychotherapy and neurophysiology. In 1988, in recognitio of his distinguished service to psychiatry and psychoanalytic research, he was presented with the Sigmund Freud Award of the American Society of Psychoanalytic Physicians. His books include Modern Psychoanalysis of the Schizophrenic Patient: Theory of the Techinque, Psychotherapy of Preoedipal Conditions, The Couch and the Circle, and with Phyllis W. Meadow, Ph.D., Treatment of the Narcissistic Neuroses.
