Dreams from several patients are discussed to demonstrate the communication of aggression turned against the self. The analysis of the communications is based on the symbols and actions in the dreams, the talk in the sessions, and the induced feelings. Some discussion of transference and countertransference is also included. The aggression is discussed in terms of its magnitude, form, and pattern of discharge. Some conclusions are drawn regarding the nature of a therapeutic response in each case.
