The paper traces the author's evolution as a group analyst from the early 1950s to the present. It explores narcissism and the narcissistic transference as manifested in groups, induction and its use as emotional communication to resolve narcissistic resistances in groups, and the role of drive theory in her method of working with groups. Two case vignettes are presented to illustrate the concepts. The first involves an individual's treatment-destructive resistance and the other a group of males who work through the emptiness of narcissism and the desperation of action to realize their unfulfilled longings for love and relatedness.
