This paper addresses issues raised in McDougall's (2000) paper “Sexuality and the Neosexual.” Specifically it considers 1) the uncertainity in the idea that sexuality is inherently traumatic; 2) the extent to which gender is determined by environment; 3) the emphasis placed on genital difference in the identificatory process; and 4) the role of sublimation in the resolution of sexual conflict. Then the paper reexamines and confirms McDougall's concept of neosexualities.
