When posed with the question “Is love necessary?” the importance of this essential emotion has most respondents answering in the affirmative without consideration of an outcome or objective. Love as an emotion is acquired in the process of living in a world that provides opportunity for an exchange of feelings that eventually get identified as such. Cases are presented that describe treatment processes that analyze the differences between enactments relating to sexual gratification and the experience of loving.
