This paper deals with marriage and relationships, and the importance of early impulses, unconscious fantasies and feelings and defenses in later manifestations of love and hate. Internal life and the reenactment of tension states from infancy are operating everywhere and often lead to discharge against the ego. In a compulsion to repeat, original feeling states are reproduced.
