Love is a complex phenomenon. The love that is the focus of this article is a feeling state of very early development, prior to a conscious understanding of separation of self and other. Love is viewed as a longing to be reunited with the lost part of oneself, a return to a time of prior experience, before individual development. The fascination of identical twins is understood as a symbolic expression of human longing for reunification.
