Rapid advances in molecular biology are raising questions of whether revisions of dual drive theory are now warranted. To get an inkling of how biological discoveries might change the prevailing theory, a “thought experiment” is conducted in which Freud's Laws of Neuronal Motion are replaced with the Complementarity Principle that governs the replication of DNA. The results suggest an evolutionary approach to drive theory in which the concept of a death drive is unnecessary. An exploration of a single drive theory is suggested.
