This paper traces the sequential emergence of the resistances demonstrated over a three-year period by a member of a mothers group. A variety of resistances unfolded in the group: self-presentation as emotionally superior to other members, withholding significant aspects of her life story and contemporary life adjustment, suffering victim, sullen defiance, and attempts at flight into health. As these resistances were studied and explored by the group and therapist, this member's group and life adjustments were significantly enhanced.
