This paper presents André Green's responses to the author's presentation1 of a case the author had been treating for 14 years. A thorough account of the author's work with this patient and a synopsis of Green's thoughts and insights regarding the case are presented, and important differences and similarities between Green's classical approach and the modern psychoanalytic approach to the case are examined. In contrasting these approaches, the author raises key questions regarding how modern psychoanalysts work with patients.
