With the publication of the winning papers of the second annual Phyllis W. Meadow Award for Excellence in Psychoanalytic Writing, we present work by thinkers within and outside the community of modern analysis. Our judges are impressed by thoughtful, clear, and persuasive prose that enhances our understanding of work with patients whatever the author's theoretical bent.
Our commitment to cross-pollination is reflected in the First Prize essay, “A Contract to Terminate: Mourning the End of the Transference.” Claire Kahane, a visiting scholar at the University of California and professor of English emerita at the State University of New York-Buffalo, wrote about her own analysis in this exploration of a topic infrequently examined by analytic writers.
Also presented here are the papers receiving Honorable Mention: Sharon Klayman Farber's “Autistic and Dissociative Features in Eating Disorders and Self-Mutilation,” Christopher Fowler and Andrea Celenza's “Altering Psychotic Processes: Integrated Psychoanalytic Treatment of a Schizophrenic Patient,” and Angela Sandone-Barr's “Caroline and Gold: The Study of a Fragmented Ego.”
