The author proposes that in his work as a psychoanalyst Hyman Spotnitz was primarily a healer who focused upon the importance of the analyst's own feelings when with a patient. Many examples of Spotnitz's clinical interventions demonstrate his emphasis on investigating the patient's problems rather than interpreting them as well as his use of the analyst/patient relationship as an emotionally corrective experience.
