This paper explores change and stability in nature, including psychoanalytic processes. Mirroring and mutual mirroring are found to be ubiquitous default and survival mechanisms. Mirroring and fractals are allied in that both are characterized as being repetitive in a self-similar manner. The repetitive aspects are related to reenactments in psychotherapy. Chaos theory is seen as congruent with the dynamics of psychoanalytic processes. It is proposed that the structure and growth of fractals found in psychoanalytic processes provide new perspectives on clinical phenomena such as dreams, the repetition compulsion, projective identification, and the transfererence-countertransference matrix.
