A philosophical and psychoanalytic memoir, this paper attempts to show, rather than argue, how the author's thinking has evolved over 50 years of engagement with philosophy and psychoanalysis. The effect of this reflection is to reveal some of the most basic features of thinking and of the unfolding of a psychoanalytic dialogue. The various philosophical and psychoanalytic approaches considered are treated as evolving discourses originating in the Other. The author gradually has assumed them, or at least features of them, as his own. At the end he is in position to say something, and indeed, to have something to say. Finally, he makes the argument that such an outcome is the goal of psychoanalysis, constituting its logical end.
