The author presents a personal/philosophical/psychoanalytic reflection on “leaving,” in this instance on leaving this journal and his position as editor. The philosophical inspiration is Heidegger's work, with an emphasis on the concept of finitude. The roles of thinking, reading, and writing, as well as social engagement are the principal areas of focus. The aim is to inspire others to become more fully engaged in the work of psychoanalysis, not simply as a practice but also as a task always to be taken up— of thinking more deeply and more creatively.
