Dr Payne was in the Chair and 21 Members were present (Brierley, Winnicott, M. Schmideberg, Balint, Lantos, Friedlander, Low, Wilson, Sharpe, Herford, K. Stephen, A. Stephen, Riviere, Heimann, Thorner, Sheehan-Dare, Isaacs, Klein, Bowlby, Strachey, W. Hoffer)
Dr Brierley, continued by the Chairman, read an abstract of the minutes of the last Extraordinary Business Meeting.
Miss Low raised a protest against the minutes and said that she had raised objections at once against Dr Wilson's proposal to ask Dr Glover for a statement and that she had voted against it. ‘I said it is completely illegitimate to make such a request. We have no jurisdiction about asking an individual Member to make such a statement.’
Dr Payne: I did not hear your objections. You cannot have voted against as no votes were taken, nor is it stated in the minutes that votes were taken on this point. The minutes say that the proposal was carried without dissent. It is possible that I and the stenographer did not hear that you objected, as the siren went and there were many people speaking at one time. But everybody spoke in favour. However, I am quite willing to amend the minutes if necessary and to insert your objection.
The minutes were passed with the addition of Miss Low's dissent.
2 The Chairman introduced the Resolution submitted by the Council:
‘The Institute of Psycho-Analysis and the British Psycho-Analytical Society wish to put on record their appreciation of Dr Edward Glover's past services to the science of psychoanalysis and to the psychoanalytic movement.’
She said: ‘I think members of the Council and Board know best how much work Dr Glover has put in in every respect. I am quite sure that everybody does appreciate all he has done for the Institute, and the Society and…’
Miss Sharpe: I will be very pleased to second this proposal for we do sincerely wish to thank Dr Glover for all the positive contributions he made
