The following brief notes on the Winnicott Publications, Archives and A Question of Biography are based on extracts taken from Part One of ‘Donald Woods Winnicott: a brief introduction’ (Abram 2008). Part Two of the paper is re-published as Chapter 3 in this volume.
Between 1931 and 2002, 23 collections of Winnicott’s writings were published: 11 during his lifetime (five now out of print); 11 posthumously, plus a collection of selected letters (Rodman (ed.) ). The 23 books contain a combination of psychoanalytic papers, articles addressed to parents and professionals working with young families, notes, abstracts and reviews. With the exception of the two main volumes (Winnicott ; ), the Winnicott Publications Committee decided to organize the writings thematically (see Davis 1987).
Below the complete list of Winnicott’s publications correlates to the ‘Knud Hjulmand Bibliography’ in The Language of Winnicott (2nd edition 2007: 361–450). Each book is dated according to Hjulmand’s bibliography. Almost all the published papers of Winnicott will be found in one of the publications below.
