Fidias R. Cesio was born on March 15, 1922. He died at the age of 90, with his brilliant mind intact, on October 10, 2012. In fact, he published his last book on actual neuroses a year before his death.
From a very young age he was interested in physiology and did research under the direction of the Argentine Nobel Prize winner Bernardo Houssay. Influenced by his brother-in-law, Luis Storni, who was also a prominent psychoanalyst and is now deceased, he began reading the works of Freud. In 1948, he contacted Enrique Pichon-Rivière and began his psychoanalytic training. His training analyst was Marie Langer, and he always said that his teachers and mentors, in addition to Pichon-Rivière, were Angel Garma, Arnaldo Rascovsky and Enrique (Heinrich) Racker. He held several positions at the Argentine Psychoanalytic Association.
He was Director of the Institute of Psychoanalysis, President of the Argentine Psychoanalytic Association (APA) and, in the international arena, was voted Latin American delegate at the House of Delegates at the International Psychoanalytical Association (IPA).
He was extremely committed to teaching candidates. He was among the analysts who had published the most papers in the journal of the APA. He was often present in National and International Psychoanalytic Conferences.
In 1967, having been interested in psychosomatic medicine for years, he, along with some disciples, founded the Centre for Research in Psychosomatic Medicine (CIMP), which had a successful development in research and training. Their conferences were attended by prestigious national and international professionals as well as writers like Jorge Luis Borges. This institution came to an end around 1977.
