The Study Group at NYU has been meeting during the academic year for almost a decade. Led by Dr. Richard Kessler, it has seven regular attendees, six of whom are clinical psychoanalysts and two of whom have a neurobiology and psychoanalysis research background (one is both). Over the years the group has read a wide variety of papers on topics such as affect, stress, anxiety, thought, global theories of brain functioning, neurology, methodology and even, in one case, the law. We are spending this year reading papers on dreams and dreaming.
Several people in the group regularly attend Mark Solms' lecture series on depth neuropsychology at the New York Psychoanalytic Institute. Members also belong to, and in one case (Body Image), lead study groups under the auspices of NYPI's program.
