The main focus of our activities over the past few months has been a fortnightly lecture series (Wednesday evenings) entitled “A Beginner's Guide to the Brain.” This is a user-friendly introductory overview of recent advances in neuroscience that seem relevant for psychoanalytic theory and/or practice. The series began in January 2000 and was massively oversubscribed. We have therefore scheduled a repeat run, which will begin in September. We have also recorded the complete series of lectures on video. Interested parties should contact Ms. Paula Barkay at annafreudcentre@compuserve.com. The lectures are given by Mark Solms and cover the following topics:
Introduction to Basic Concepts
Brain and Mind: How Do They Relate?
Consciousness and the Unconscious
Emotion and Motivation
Memory and Phantasy
Dreams and Hallucinations
Genetic and Environmental Influences on Mental Development
Differences between Left and Right Hemispheres
How Does the “Talking Cure” Work?
