Yusaku Soussumi, psychiatrist and psychoanalyst, member of São Paulo Brazilian Society of Psychoanalysis (IPA), together with some psychologists and psychiatrists of the Psychoanalytic Institute of the Society, as well as some additional persons not affiliated to IPA, started the group in 1994. We have been studying the works of some important neuroscientists, such as Gerald Edelman, Jean Pierre Changeux, Joseph LeDoux, Antonio Damasio and recently, Jaak Panksepp. Some members of the group are also members of the Center of Studies of Psycho-Neuro-Immuno-Endocrinology, and of the International Society of Psycho-Neuro-Endocrinology. There we contribute a neuropsychoanalytic vision to the dynamics of immunologic and endocrinologic functions. We give courses to the medical and psychological students, as well as to other professions within the health services. Some of us are also members of the Psychosomatic Institute of São Paulo, founded by a group of psychoanalysts of the Brazilian Society of Psychoanalysis, where we study and discuss psychoanalytical views on psychosomatic diseases, as well as give lectures and arrange symposiums. Our group also takes part in the “Brazilian Association of Studies in Pre-and Perinatal Psychological Life,” contributing lectures about the origins of the neuropsychical manifestations of the fetus and toddler. We are planning to open activities at the universities, participating in neuro-psychoanalytical researches of structural changes, in collaboration with Prof. Dr. Lucia Salvia Coelho, Postdoctoral Professor of Neuropsychology at São Paulo University and in Aix-en-Provence, France. We are hoping to invite some of the above-mentioned eminent neuroscientists to come to São Paulo in order to lecture and give courses.
