In this, the sixth issue of Neuro-Psychoanalysis, we publish a range of articles dealing with scientific, philosophical, and historical topics at the interface of neuroscience and psychoanalysis. The lead articles focus on developmental questions of fundamental importance to our field. As usual, readers are strongly encouraged to submit commentaries on these articles, via our web site: neuro-psa.com. Selected commentaries will be published in the Ongoing Discussion section of future issues of the journal.
Also in this issue is the second installment of Calvin Kai-ching Yu's series of three articles on the neuroanatomical correlates of dreaming. This is followed by an unusually interesting contribution on the problem of consciousness by Philip Clapson. Invited commentaries on Clapson's target article will appear in a subsequent issue of the journal. Readers are again invited to participate in the ongoing discussion.
To commemorate the centenary of the publication of Freud's The Psychopathology of Everyday Life, Riccardo Steiner analyzes the scientific and cultural context of this celebrated book, which vividly illustrates the continuity between some of Freud's basic concepts and the neuroscience of his time.
We would like to apologize to our readers for the lateness of the publication of this issue. We have experienced a number of teething problems, which we are in the process of rectifying, and we expect the journal to appear more punctually from late 2002 onward. We apologize also to our authors for the large number of high quality papers we have been unable to accommodate, and for the increasing delays between acceptance and publication. This should be rectified from 2004 onward, by which time we hope to be able to publish four issues per year.
