We are happy to inform readers of the formation and activity of our local society, the Israel Neuro-Psychoanalysis Study Group. While we have been operating for the last two years, we now feel that the time is ripe for formally establishing a local chapter of the International Society for Neuro-Psychoanalysis in Israel.
Among the founding members of our Israeli society are psychoanalysts, clinical and academic psychologists, psychiatrists, a behavioral neurologist, a philosopher, and other professionals who are interested in the interface between psychoanalysis and the neurosciences. There are about 20 of us at this time, and we have been holding monthly meetings for the past two years. At our meetings we have read papers relevant to the field, reviewed presentations from the first two international conferences, and discussed the implications of recent neurobiological discoveries for our clinical work and theoretical models. In other meetings, several of us presented our own clinical and research work to the group.
Recently, as a result of our discussions, we decided that a dictionary, which will attempt to define phrases from one field in terms that are known and understandable to the other, is essential for a clear and meaningful dialogue. Since we are aware that the International Society has come to the same conclusion, we would be happy to take part in this joint endeavor.
We look forward to a productive and enjoyable relationship with the International Society.
