The main goals of the group at the present time (Spring 2003) are:
To continue our studies of neuroscientific, psychoanalytic, and neuro-psychoanalytic works in order to gain more knowledge and competence in the field, and for the leaders of the group, who are full members of IPA, to pass on their knowledge of neuro-psycho-analytic issues to the Psychoanalytical Society of Sâo Paulo and to other groups and Institutes of Psychoanalysis in Brazil.
To diffuse neuro-psychoanalytic ideas and concepts also within other fields, such as medical education, psychiatry, psychosomatic psychotherapy, and social education.
To try to establish interdisciplinary relations with other fields, such as scientific methodology, evolutionary biology, anthropology, etc.
To initiate neuro-psychological and neuro-psychoanalytic research projects with patients suffering from different brain lesions:
“Emotional Disturbances after traumatic and vascular injury to the frontal lobe—Investigation and evaluation by fMRI” (the neuropsychological diagnosis will be made by Dr. Lucia Salvia Coelho and the psychoanalytic diagnosis and treatment by Dr. Yusaku Soussumi).
“Diagnosis and treatment of emotional and cognitive disturbances in a poly-traumatized patient suffering from tetraplegia and aphasia” (a multidisciplinary intervention by members of the group—a neuropsychologist, a phonoaudiologist, a physiotherapist, a somatic doctor, a psychoanalyst, and a social psychologist).
“A psychoanalytic treatment based on a neuropsychoanalytic, dynamic comprehension of a patient with residual disturbances after multiple traumatic lesions of the brain” (by Drs. Honorio Yamaguti and Yusaku Soussumi).
“Psychoanalytic treatment of a patient with disturbances caused by an inborn lesion of the brain” (by Dr. Yusaku Soussumi).
