During 2004 the Finnish group has continued to meet once a month. In our discussions the main topics have been related to affective and cognitive consciousness and the structure of the self. In August 2004 Jaak Panksepp visited Helsinki, invited by the Helsinki Association of Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy, and we had the opportunity to attend three inspiring lectures by him: Affective Neuroscience, on sources of cognitive and affective consciousness and relations to psychiatric disorders; Social Neuroscience, on the neuro-affective sources of social bonding and attachments and implications to autism; and Emotional Sounds and Emotional Feelings, on relationships to playfulness and implications for ADHD. His themes were then thoroughly discussed in the group. In September 2004 Riitta Hari, an internationally distinguished neuroscientist and specialist in MRI and fMRI, gave us a lecture on brain imaging and the study of mirror neurons.
A new contact person for the group has now been chosen, Heli Kauranen (heli.kauranen@saunalahti.fi). She is a neuropsychologist and psychotherapist.
