We are a mixed group of psychoanalytic psychotherapists and counselors, some of whom have specific experience within the field of neuroscience. The initial focus to our discussions was provided through our readings of chapters of Mark Solms and Oliver Turnbull's The Brain and the Inner World (2002) as an introduction to the interrelation of brain and mind. Broad-ranging discussions continue around the interface of psychoanalysis and neuroscience and the clinical applications and implications. Thomas Camps provided some thought-provoking input on the potential behaviors of simple systems, including a demonstration of his electronic device that shows both attachment and aversive behaviors. Future plans include inviting discussants from other centers and the use of video material.
Our group was started in July 2004 and met quarterly up the end of 2005. Since January 2006, it has met twice each term, hence 6 times per annum. Future meetings have been arranged for the following Fridays at 7.00 pm at WMIP, Harborne Road, Birmingham, B15 3AF England: 6 July, 28 September, and 30 November 2007, and 25 January 2008.
