Prof. Solms makes several useful points around our understanding of functional neurological disorders. This commentary discusses three of these issues. First, the question of how this is a phenomenon rebranded, having long existed under different names. Second, the matter of how to treat our patients, where there are many advantages in not re-referring them, and in taking a pragmatic approach to their treatment. Finally, there is the interesting issue of whether, and if so how, functional neurological disorders might be regarded as the mind–body problem “in reverse.”
