Novick and Novick bring to bear the psychoanalytic tradition of a dual-track model of development and apply their two-systems model of self-regulation to support the findings of the target paper authors. They elaborate on the idea of children as active agents of their solutions to the challenge of traumatic experience and apply their two-systems ideas, combined with those of the target paper, to suggest that an interdisciplinary approach can generate enhanced clinical techniques and amend psychoanalytic models of development and pathogenesis.
