In response to our Editorial in Psychoanalysis and History 2(2), pp. 145-146, Philip Kuhn has sent us the following announcement, which we are pleased to publish:
I am currently researching the early medical career of Ernest Jones, from his first hospital appointment in 1902 until he was effectively forced to emigrate to Canada in 1908. I have just completed a paper on the ‘1906 affair’ which explores, through a significant cache of contemporary documents, Jones's arrest, trial and subsequent acquittal for indecently assaulting two young girls during a medical examination. In the course of this research I have also become interested in an early twentieth-century English psychiatric discourse. I hope to explore certain patterns of thought which link a number of influential psychiatrists/neurologists, some of whom originally influenced Jones, and thereby suggest how their ideas might have paved the way for Jones's interest in and reception of the early works of Freud.
