Just as this issue was going to press we received the very sad news of John Forrester's death on 24 November 2015. John was editor of Psychoanalysis and History for a decade from 2005-2015 and during the course of his career made a remarkable contribution to scholarship on psychoanalysis. As a brilliant, energetic and inspiring scholar, and a fine editor and generous facilitator of other people's research and projects, his presence in these pages will be much missed. There is only space here, at this late stage in the production cycle, to report our sadness at his loss, but readers are referred to the fine obituary by Simon Schaffer on the website of the Department of the History and Philosophy of Science at Cambridge, where John was based since 1984, which gives a touching overview of his remarkable career and qualities as a researcher, collaborator and teacher people.hps.cam.ac.uk. It is our intention to pay tribute to his work more fully in the following issues of the journal.
