Jingyuan Zhang 张京徽 (1954-2020) was Associate Professor Emerita in the Department of East Asian Languages and Cultures at Georgetown University, which she joined in 1994. She held a BA and MA in English from Sichuan University of International Studies, and an MA and PhD in Comparative Literature from Cornell University. She held a tenured position in the Chinese Department and Institute of Comparative Literature at Peking University for three years before returning to the United States to teach at Cornell, University of California, Berkeley, and finally Georgetown. She was a leading authority on the relationship between Chinese psychoanalytic thought and literary practice. We host here a series of tributes to her work, and in particular the lasting impact of her volume Psychoanalysis in China: Literary Transformations 1919-1949 (Zhang, 1992).
