Following the obituary for Alain de Mijolla in a recent issue of the journal (vol. 22, no. 3), I must, first, express regret at the loss of Alain de Mijolla, and condolences to Sophie. I met them at conferences of l'Association internationale d'histoire de la psychanalyse in 1993 and 1995.
But second, I would like to add a little detail of history. It was at the Conference in 1995 in Paris that I discussed with Alain and Sophie about starting a journal on the history of psychoanalysis. Their own Journal de l'Association internationale d'histoire de la psychanalyse, published by Presses Universitaires de France, was about to be terminated by the publisher. I suggested that it could be published in English with, probably, a wider circulation, by a small publishing company which I had at the time (Artesian Books). In the end that collaboration did not come off. And hence this journal, Psychoanalysis and History, was founded in 1998, with Andrea Sabbadini as the first editor, and published by Artesian Books.
