Over the last five years, and particularly through the co-editorship of the journal with Dagmar Herzog, Psychoanalysis and History has pursued an agenda of broadening the global reference points for the history of psychoanalysis. The aim has been not just to curate and augment existing narratives of psychoanalytic traditions, but to challenge these critically and extend them through unexpected vantage points - including postcolonial, interdisciplinary and psychosocial perspectives on the uses made of psychoanalysis within and beyond the clinic, in its multifarious and often marginalized iterations. This agenda has resulted in a number of special issues on subjects such as psychoanalysis and the Middle East (20.3), and psychoanalysis and disability (21.2); on the ‘queering’ of psychoanalysis through the radical ethnography of Robert J. Stoller and Fritz Morgenthaler (22.1); on Sinopsychoanalysis (23.2); and most recently, free clinics and the social mission of psychoanalysis (24.3).
